Challenge
concept
The "Zen Garden" emerges as an architectural marvel, uniting traditional “engawa” as our surface counter area and contemporary Japanese architecture to introduce a captivating fusion of indoor tranquility and the serene essence of an outdoor garden.
SOLUTION
Distinct wooden ceiling feature and floor tiles are artfully employed to separate and define the Engawa and Garden areas. This thoughtful touch not only adds a visual distinction but also contributes to the overall narrative, creating a harmonious coexistence between the traditional Engawa and the natural allure of the garden, seamlessly bringing the two areas together in a delicate dance of design and functionality.
OUTCOME
The focal point draws attention to a dynamic shift in the relationship between the floor and the wall, achieved through a mesmerizing folding effect. This deliberate folding method not only enhances the perceived spaciousness but also facilitates a transition, where the architectural structure gracefully unfolds to become the Zen Garden on the wall, blurring the boundaries between an enclosed, tranquil space and an open-air garden vibe. Alongside, tables elegantly lined up against the wall resembles enchanting garden pathway lights, weaving the narrative of a serene garden sanctuary.
