Challenge

concept

Good Catch Café offers a captivating contrast to the sleek, modern aesthetics of its surroundings. Inspired by the vibrant soul of 1960s-90s Hong Kong cafés, the design transports guests into a space that fuses nostalgia with modern artistry. The intricate craftsmanship of traditional Hong Kong architectural elements is abstracted and reimagined, creating a spatial narrative that blends heritage and contemporary design.

SOLUTION

The timeless symbolism of gold, evoking prosperity and warmth, a reflection of the name “Ten Thousand Fortunes”, which is derived from the Chinese name of the client’s restaurant, “萬好”. This radiant hue serves as the foundation of the design, bridging the past and present, and guiding the conceptual direction of the space.

OUTCOME

The Ten Thousand Fortunes feature wall displays the Chinese character for "good" (好), symbolizing prosperity, with fonts from nine Chinese periods cascading in a scroll-like design. Modern metal gates and 3D illuminated text create movement and fluidity, while gold enhances the theme of prosperity. Reimagined red street market lamps with gold finishes anchor the space, casting soft shadows. Green accents, inspired by Hong Kong street stalls of the 60s and 90s, are used in metal gates and signage, adding cultural depth. The interior blends patterned green tiles and raw concrete, reflecting Hong Kong's urban landscape. A CNC-engraved phoenix and dragon with LED lighting transforms traditional motifs into modern art.
